John C.'s Story
Life
Have been married to my High School Sweetheart since 9/27/71.
We have 2 children and 2 Grandchildren. They all live in Brooksville Florida, a place Patti and I have fallen in Love with.
We purchased or house, on Highland Ave. in 1975 and although it was to be our starter home...we are still there. It is two bedrooms and a bath larger than it was in 1975.
The cats own the place. We have taken in numerous strays over the years. We befriend them (or is it the other way ?) and have them fixed. Some stick around and live in the cat house. Some have been granted asylum in doors. We are on third generation animals....we couldn't fix them all !
We do a lot of volunteer work. I'm Secretary of the Lions Club (10 years running) and have been a member for 28 years. I am on the board of the D&H Canal Society and the D&H Corridor Alliance.
Patti and I work with alternative sentencing and work to keep the rail/canal trail open, in the Kerhonkson area. Upon retirement, we buil...Expand for more
t a bridge, on old RR abutments, for the trail. I brokered a deal for the steel beams and lumber and enlisted help from the Town and County to erect the structure. It was a fun project.
Fishing and Golf are always on the docket. Lake Ontario and Atlantic Highlands NJ are two favorite spots.
College
17 year old boys shouldn't go to college. Especially ones with short attention spans. UCCC was enjoyable, but I opted to go the hard way.
Workplace
After 35 years with the New York State department of Transportation....I am gainfully unemployed.
Part Time work keeps me busy. I get to take people Fishing and Golfing. Working 3 days a week....six months a year is a great thing.
Military
I am proud to say that I served in the US Army from 1969 to 1971.
Viet Nam was an interesting journey. I furthered my Engineering Skills, Turned 21 and was allowed to vote !
I also grew up over there !
I returned home and still consider it an adventure that I wouldn't have missed.
